EZAcres Cattery is a family-owned and operated Sphynx cattery, proudly run by a retired military family. Our values of integrity, dedication, and compassion are reflected in every aspect of how we raise and care for our cats.
Growing up on a farm in Iowa, a deep love and respect for animals was instilled in me from an early age. Watching my family care for and raise a variety of animals—and eventually becoming part of that daily rhythm—sparked a lifelong passion for animal welfare. That early experience became the foundation for my enduring compassion and dedication to all creatures, great and small.
Our love for the Sphynx breed began in 2008 with the arrival of our very first two kittens—Kimosabe, who brought us 13 wonderful years of joy, and Kimora, who is now 17 years old and still a cherished member of our ever-growing family. Over the years, our journey has expanded in the most beautiful ways, now including not only our beloved cats but also two amazing grandchildren who share in the love and laughter that fills our home.
After raising our now-adult children while traveling the world through deployments and permanent duty stations during both of our military careers, my husband and I made our home in Alabama in 2015. Not long after settling in, our curiosity and passion for the Sphynx breed blossomed into something more—and the exciting journey of breeding these extraordinary cats officially began.
Even after living with Sphynx cats for many years, stepping into the world of breeding was an entirely different experience—one we quickly learned was not just a hobby, but a full way of life. It’s physically demanding, emotionally intense, and often means putting everything else on hold—including plans, sleep, and vacations. I’ll admit, I wasn’t fully prepared for how all-consuming it would be, or the depth of knowledge it would require.
Looking back, I can honestly say I would not have made it through those early years without the guidance of my incredible mentor. Her unwavering support, deep knowledge, and compassion—and her willingness to answer the phone at any hour were absolutely priceless. She offered wisdom that I will carry with me for life, and her devotion to mentoring helped shape me into a better breeder, a more grounded person, and now, a mentor myself. I will always hold deep respect and gratitude for Jayme, for believing in me and walking beside me as I found my place in this journey.
And finally, none of this would have been possible without my husband—the man who wears more hats than I can count. General contractor, carpenter, electrician, flight nanny, “cat whisperer,” supply runner, emotional support person, and best friend—he’s truly my everything! His unwavering support and belief in this dream have turned a vision into reality, and I will forever be grateful.
He is my biggest advocate and the reason this cattery and sanctuary we call home exist. He built every single room by hand—laid every tile, installed every floor, hung every wall, placed every fixture, and brought to life every detail I could imagine. His dedication has not only built a home for us and these beloved cats but also made my lifelong passion for Sphynx cats a living, breathing reality.
And let’s not forget—he’s sacrificed countless nights of sleep, weekends, vacation days, and even his own bedroom space for the comfort and care of our cats and kittens. His love and selflessness are woven into every corner of this journey, and I truly couldn’t have done it without him.
I could never say “thank you” or “I love you” to Peter Bowden enough. His endless support, patience, and love have been the foundation of everything we’ve built—and words will never fully capture how grateful I am for him.
