Cattery Testing/Vetting and Care

Health Testing

  • All of our breeders go through thourough testing to ensure our kittens meet the highest health standards. We do scheduled echocardiograms scanning for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, also know as HCM, an unfortunately common heart condition in the Sphynx Breed, performed by Dr. Straeter at the Animal Cardiology of Alabama in Birmingham, AL. We also conduct DNA testing through Wisdom Panel which screens for over 45 genetic diseases to eliminate any predispositions of genetic disease to kittens.
  • We are a FULL DISCLOSURE CATTERY! (DNA & HCM test results for Adults are available upon adopters requests.)
  •  We snap test EVERY litter for FIV/FELV/HW as well as performing snap tests for Giardia and testing for other parasites and protozoans through fecal exams. All tests are performed prior to Cats/Kittens leaving for their new homes.

Food

We currently alternately feed Purina One Plus Kitten Formula kibble and Primal Nuggets freeze dried nuggets to our Breeding cats and both wet and dry Royal Canin Baby/MommaCat to our pregnant/nursing mommas and weaning babies. Once babies are 2 1/2 months old, we switch them to Royal Canin Kitten food kibble mixed with wet Baby/MommaCat until they go home. Sphynx cats should always have access to food and water at all times because they require a much higher calorie and water intake than the average cat. Please remember, if you switch brands after they go home to always do so slowly as Sphynx cats have an extremely sensitive stomach!

Litter

As most catteries, we go through a tremendous amount of litter! We currently use TSC Pine Pellets and RK Equine Pine Pellets which come in 40 pound bags for under $8 a bag. Pine pellets are all natural and do not contain harsh chemicals like other traditional clay clumping litters. Pine pellets are extremely safe for small kittens during litter training and is likely to do less harm to them in comparison to clay litter in the event that they accidentally were to swallow or consume it. Clay litter is not recommended as the kittens could swallow the litter and it could solidify in their throat, blocking their airway which could be potentially fatal. You are welcome to transition your kitten to any litter of your preference after they have been home for a minimum of 14 days.
